Speech |

This is just a little
page which tells all you lovely people out there some of the bits of
speech which people use, not just once or twice to emphasise a certain
part of what they're saying - but all the time. It sounds stupid,
as you might agree when I list them below. I also think that it
makes the person saying them seem dumb also.
Note: If you are one of the people who says the stuff below, please either take heed at their annoyingness and stop. You don't realise you do it, but you do. Also, if you're offended, you'll never find out where I live to beat me up, anyway. : >) Here we go, then.. "Y'know what I'm sayin'?" Yes, we do know what you are saying. You don't have to reassure yourself that we're listening after every sentence. If we don't understand what you're saying, we'll interrupt and ask. Otherwise, we'll just ignore you because It's just so annyoying.
"At the end of the day.." Okay, okay. We get your 'at the end of the day' crap. How many times do you have to repeat yourself'? At the end of the day, we'll be wanting to throttle you because the way you speak is just so annoying. Once is enough.
"...[insert name here], man.." Oh, god. I know you think it sounds hip and cool. It'll make you sound like you're all in with the lingo of the youth, but it just makes you sound stupid. The American's started it, you don't have to copy it.
"Basically, what it is.." Everything in the whole of your life must be so basic. How? Don't you ever come trying to explain complex brain surgery starting your sentences with the word, "basically" or i'll poke some sharp, nasty looking operating theatre unstrument into your eye.
"It's gotta be said.." I see. Okay. If it has to be said, just say it. Don't keep telling us that it has to be said, because you're probably going to say it anyway. Doesn't repeating it over and over even annoy you in the slightest? I mean, it's gotta be said!
"Yeah, yeah, yeah?" You tell us something. We listen. We understand. We might not speak back to say we understand, but body language, paralinguistics and all that would surely tell you that we are listening and have understood. There is no need to repeat the word "yes" over and over until we commuicate our understanding by kicking you in the shins from frustration.
